The 16 Hands school incursion gives primary school children the chance to get up close and personal with a thoroughbred horse. For many children, it is their first encounter with these magnificent animals, and one they will always remember.
16 Hands is a community schools program supported by Racing Victoria (RV). Its main aim is to connect kids with horses. Our incursion engages children through an informative and interactive hour-long lesson.
The stars of the show are our horses, who interact with the children by modelling their teeth, showing off their hooves and providing all kids with the opportunity of getting up close and personal with a horse with each student being able to pat this unique animal.
The program is flexible, encourages participation and is aligned to the Victorian Curriculum.
The program is FREE and we travel to all primary schools throughout metropolitan Melbourne.
Presentations are designed to provide minimal disruption to the school day and are aimed at including the entire school. Each visit runs for approximately one hour to ensure that all children get the chance to pat the horse.
Presentations are given by qualified primary school teachers, the format can be customised to each school’s requirements and the content is aligned to the Victorian Curriculum.
